Did you know that there are plenty of mental health benefits of trampolining for children? It’s true! And we thought there’s no better time to tell you all about these benefits than during Children’s Mental Health Week 2024.

In this blog, find out what Children’s Mental Health Week is and how High Altitude in Norwich are supporting this awareness week.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2024

This is such an important awareness week for everyone to get involved in. Here at High Altitude, we urge children, parents, teachers, carers and everybody else in Norfolk to get involved.

When is Children’s Mental Health Week 2024?

This year’s Children’s Mental Health week runs from Monday 5th to Sunday 11th February.

What is the Children’s Mental Health Week 2024 Theme?

Each year, this mental health week celebrates a different theme. This year, the theme is ‘My Voice Matters’

Every child and young person has the right to express themselves and share their voice with the world, offering their thoughts and feelings. This year’s theme is all about making sure the voices of young people are listened to and taken seriously.

Allowing children and young people to express themselves has a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing – which is what Children’s Mental Health Week is all about.

Feeling empowered, children and young people can work with grown ups to spread positive change across the world.

About Children’s Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week was started by Place2Be way back in 2015. Since then, this awareness week has been used to highlight and support children and young people and their mental health.

Now in its 10th year, Children’s Mental Health Week has become a nationally recognised event with children, teens, parents, carers, schools and colleges getting involved.

As part of this awareness week, Place2Be offer resources for schools and resources for families to help everyone get involved and support the children and young people they care for.

Children’s Mental Health Week is well recognised in Norfolk also, with plenty of schools taking part. Such schools as Cringleford Primary School, Bignold Primary School, and many more!

Mental Health Benefits of Trampolining for Children

Children’s mental health is something that is so special to us at High Altitude. We wholeheartedly believe that providing children and young people with enriching, joyful and fun activities – such as trampolining sessions – has a positive impact on their mental health.

So, here are 6 mental health benefits of trampolining for children.

1. Trampolining Releases Feel-Good Endorphins for Kids

If you’ll allow us to put on our lab coats and get scientific for a moment, trampolining has been proven to release feel-good endorphins, even for children. When trampolining, endorphins are released into children’s brains.

This positive hormone has the power to lift moods and relieve stress to create an overall sense of wellbeing.

Serotonin, adrenaline and dopamine are also released when trampolining. All of these have a great impact on a child’s mental health and wellbeing. For a true burst of adrenaline, kids loving taking on the inflatables at High Altitude.

2.Children Mental Health and Trampoline Exercise

There’s that magic ‘E’ word – Exercise!

When children engage in active play and exercise their bodies, their minds benefit also. Simply because when we exercise, we feel good. And trampolining is incredible exercise.

Here are a few ways trampolining = a great workout for kids:

  • Incredible cardiovascular workout for children
  • Full body movement that targets multiple muscles
  • A lower impact exercise that is better for kid’s joints

Like we said, when a young person’s body feels good, so does their mind, which leads to better mental health.

3.Trampoline Sessions Promote Socialisation for Children

When children of a similar age and ability are able to get together and play with one another, like in our Tots sessions or SEN sessions, for example, they learn to socialise with one another.

Loneliness and boredom can have a negative effect on a child’s mental health. Which is why socialising and making friends are so beneficial for young people.

At our park, we run dedicated trampoline sessions that allow bouncers of similar ages and abilities to bounce together. This helps children not to feel too overwhelmed by older jumpers and not slowed down by younger bouncers.

4.Trampolining Builds Confidence for Young People

This year’s Children’s Mental Health Week has the theme of ‘My Voice Matters’. Part of this theme is to empower children and young people to share their thoughts and feelings with the world.

That can be a scary thing for a child to do. There are a handful of great ways for children to build confidence, and one of those is through trampolining. By putting themselves out there to meet new people have fun, young people are in turn also building their confidence.

5.Provide a Sense of Belonging for Kids

Lots of our customers come to our trampoline park in Norwich for the incredible community we have created. When children feel like they belong, their mental health is less at risk. Instead of feeling like an outsider, young people can get involved and join in through trampolining.

This is also why sports clubs and groups are so great, as they also make children feel part of a team, somewhere they belong. School groups and sports clubs can strengthen this quality in their children by hosting a sleepover at High Altitude

6.Trampoline Park Visits Bring Families Closer Together

Last but by no means least is something that’s really special for children and young people – family. As a parent watching your child grow, you want to enjoy as much family time as possible. Not just for you but for your child’s mental health.

Family is so important for a child, so being able to enjoy family-friendly activities with your little ones is so magical and benefits children massively.

We’re all about family at High Altitude, and even parents are accommodated at our park!
