High Altitude

The hope is that you won’t have to search for fun rainy day activities this summer, but as you well know, the Great British weather doesn’t always decide to play ball. So just in case the rain does start to fall on a summer day, you’ll be ready for it.

Here at High Altitude, we’re experts in all things fun – who better to put this list of fun rainy day activities together than us? For this list of ideas, we’ve done our absolute best to include a varied mix of ideas, from more affordable days out to some unique ideas you may not have thought about.

Let’s get started!

11 Fun Rainy Day Activities

1. High Altitude Trampoline Park: The Ultimate Fun Rainy Day Activity

A list family-friendly activities in Norwich would be incomplete without High Altitude. As a completely indoor trampoline park, when the rain comes pouring, there’s no need to worry.

Our huge trampoline court is ideal for all ages and with our age-relevant trampoline sessions, such as bounce sessions for toddlers or bigger kids, everyone gets to enjoy the trampolines at their own speed and comfort. Remember, we may be a trampoline park, but that doesn’t mean all we have are trampolines. Guests of High Altitude can also have a turn on our inflatables and other indoor attractions

Spending the day at this trampoline park means you and the family get to enjoy multiple fun rainy day activities in one without ever having to leave.

2. Family Swim Day: A Splashing Day Out

First up on our list is an all-time family favourite – swimming! It’s one of those fun rainy day activities the whole family can take part in. Across Norfolk, there are several great swimming pools ideal for different age groups.

If your little ones have yet to learn how to swim, take advantage of rainy summer days by teaching them at a local swimming pool. However, if your kids have earned their swimmer badges and binned the armbands, there are a few pools in Norfolk that come with awesome features, such as slides and wave machines.

Some of our favourite Norfolk swimming pools include:

3. Strikes and Spares: Bowling Adventures for a Rainy Day

Rainy day activities in Norfolk don’t get much better than a session of bowling. This is the perfect family activity that will bring out everyone’s competitive side. Despite what some may think, bowling is suitable for all ages. Most bowling places offer equipment for children – such as ramps, lighter balls, and lanes with bumpers – that make bowling easier.

Most places also have other amenities on-site or close by, like cafes, crazy golf, and restaurants. Hollywood Bowl in Norwich, for example, also has a big arcade centre on-site. After hitting the lanes, head over to the arcade – it’s two fun rainy day activities in one.

4. Crazy Golf: Putt Your Way to Victory

Crazy golf is an awesome day out, and there are plenty of places that offer this competitive, fun, indoor game. This summer holiday rainy day idea is ideal for families as courses tend not to be too difficult for kids and not too easy for adults. Most of the time, it’s the kids showing up the parents!

We think you’ll all agree that what makes an awesome crazy golf experience is the elaborate designs of the different courses! Putt Putt Social has some stunning crazy golf course designs and is a familiar favourite with local families.

5. Dive Into Adventure: Aquarium Explorations

If your child is obsessed with all things sea creatures, then an aquarium is a no-brainer. Unlike zoos, most aquariums are indoors, making them ideal as a fun rainy day activity. In Norfolk, there are two Sea Life locations – one in Great Yarmouth and another in Hunstanton.

As well as being a fun activity, aquariums are also educational, teaching children (and adults) all about the various creatures that live in the sea. These are immersive experiences where a family can easily spend a whole day.

6. Bug Parc: Creepy Crawlies Galore

If you’re after unique, fascinating and fun rainy day activities, look no further than the Bug Parc. This insect zoo is perfect for rainy days with most of it being indoors. Here, the whole family can learn all about the world of bugs up close and personal! From beetles to butterflies, your kids will be amazed by the variety of insects they get to see up close and even interact with.

Like aquariums, Bug Parc isn’t just about observing these marvellous creatures, but also learning about them. With interactive exhibits and knowledgeable staff, children can discover the importance of these insects. It’s an educational fun rainy day activity that will keep the whole family entertained and intrigued.

7. Escape Room Challenges: Interactive Fun Rainy Day Activities

Next up on our list of summer holiday rainy day ideas are escape rooms – a great indoor adventure for families. Gather the family to act as your team as you put your problem-solving skills to the test in one of Norfolk’s exciting escape rooms, such as Escape Hunt in Norwich.

Escape rooms not only present you with tricky puzzles that you must try to solve with your wits and teamwork, but different rooms come in different themes, which is great entertainment for the whole family.

8. Soft Play: Summer Holiday Rainy Day Ideas for Small Children

When it comes to keeping young children entertained on a rainy day, soft play centres are a lifesaver for parents, and there are so many to choose from in Norwich and Norfolk. These indoor playgrounds are packed with various features and activities, like slides, ball pits, and climbing steps.

Offering safe and engaging environments, soft play centres are great activities for toddlers. There is even a soft play area at High Altitude. Located in the park café, parents can sit back and relax while their little ones play.

9. Travel Through Time: Visit a Museum

Museums are perfect for rainy day activities, providing a bland of education and entertainment. The historical county of Norfolk is home to several family-friendly museums that can make learning both fun and engaging for kids of all ages.

Norwich Castle Museum is a constant top choice for local families. Here, you can learn all about the history of Norfolk through the ages with interactive displays, stunning collections, and amazing exhibits.

Some other great museums in Norfolk include:

10. Indoor Roller Skating Adventures: Roll Into Good Times

When the weather isn’t cooperating with your summer plans, indoor roller skating offers a fantastic active day out that is also super fun. Indoor roller rinks provide a safe and controlled environment for children and adults of different skill levels to take part. As well as keeping you active for a day, roller skating is a good exercise for balance and coordination.

Funkys in Norwich is a great local roller skating rink. Featuring music, lights, and ample space to skate all over the place, roller skating is an exhilarating experience for the whole family.

11. Family Feast: Enjoy a Meal Out Together

Okay, this may not be an activity per se, but we do think it’s a great summer holiday rainy day idea. From time to time, it’s nice to simply sit down with the whole family and enjoy some food together at a lovely restaurant. We don’t need to tell you there are so many incredible family-friendly restaurants around.

What’s great about this idea is that you can pair it with one of the fun rainy day activities on our list. For example, after a crazy trampoline session at High Altitude, when tummies are rumbling, it’s a great time for a meal out on the way home.

One Last Thing on Fun Rainy Day Activities

Even with this list of awesome rainy day activities, we hope your summer isn’t filled with too much rain. Remember, you don’t have to wait for that rain to start pouring before taking up one of these ideas.

High Altitude, for example, is open all summer long during rainy days and sunny ones. On hot days, we keep cool in the shade by cranking up the air conditioning and enjoying ice-cold treats, like slushies. So don’t be a stranger and come and visit our trampoline park this summer!
